CCSDS Text Standards

CCSDS has text-based standards for data that is informed by legacy space data formats, or an industry standard that is not tied to specific hardware. These are represented using a Key Value Notation (KVN) text standard, or eXtensible Markup Language (XML).
Neither of these serialization types identify the low-level data types required to accurately represent the data.
Also, integrators have no way of knowing which specific data type to use in their code, leading to errors between implementations.
In addition, the bandwidth and storage requirements for the raw data in these formats are much larger than other serialization formats.
